-Amostra: 50 cuidadores primários de indivíduos com lesão medular que vivem na comunidade e 40 controles (população saudável) pareados por idade e sexo; média de idade de 38,26 anos no grupo de cuidadores primários e 37,30 no grupo controle; 42 (84%) dos cuidadores e 32 (80%) dos controles eram do sexo feminino; 40 (80%) de todos os cuidadores eram cônjuges.

Todos os domínios do SF-36, exceto dor corporal, foram significativamente menores no grupo de cuidadores em comparação ao controle. Menores pontuações nos domínios aspecto emocional e aspecto físico e maior em vitalidade. Não foi encontrada relação entre a QV dos cuidadores e as variáveis duração da lesão, níveis de lesão, escore da ASIA, grau de espasticidade, incontinência da bexiga ou intestino e escaras de pressão. |

Os cuidadores familiares relataram menores escores nos domínios aspecto físico e vitalidade; e maiores em capacidade funcional e aspecto emocional. As pontuações permaneceram estáveis ou aumentaram ligeiramente em todos os domínios do SF-36 nos 6 meses, com exceção do aspecto físico. Houve um declínio na capacidade funcional e no aspecto físico aos 3 meses, mas a capacidade funcional aumentou novamente com 6 meses. |

-Amostra: 60 cuidadores primários de pessoas com paraplegia por lesão medular traumática, 49 (81,70%) do sexo feminino, com idade de 18 a 60 anos, média de 35,80 anos, 16 (26,60%) esposas, 14 (23,40%) irmãs e 11 (18,40%) mães. A maior parte era casado (51,70%) e tinha baixo nível de escolaridade (53,30%); 23 (38,30%) tinham doença crônica e 32 (53,30%) eram únicos cuidadores. Tempo médio de cuidado diário de 11,30 horas. Tempo médio como cuidador de 5,20 anos.

-Amostra: 59 cuidadores familiares de indivíduos com lesão medular traumática; 53 (89,85) do sexo feminino; média de idade de 44,80 anos; 22 (37,30%) esposas, 14 (23,70%) mães e 9 (15,30%) irmãs; 44 (74,60%) casadas; 38 (64,40%) tinham baixo nível de escolaridade; 23 (39%) deixaram o trabalho para cuidar do familiar; 29 (49,20%) tinham algum tipo de problema de saúde.

A QV foi mais comprometida nos cuidadores dos indivíduos tetraplégicos, principalmente nos domínios aspectos físicos e dor. As diferenças entre as médias da qualidade de vida dos grupos com e sem complicações ao trauma (como úlceras por pressão e infecção urinária) não foram estatisticamente significantes. Ao associar a sobrecarga do cuidado com a QVRS, obteve-se que quanto maior a sobrecarga pior a QVRS. |

Todos os escores do SF-36 das cuidadoras foram menores do que da população normal (baseado em 2165 mulheres iranianas de outro estudo). Menor pontuação no domínio capacidade funcional e maior em aspecto social. Houve correlação negativa significativa entre idade das cuidadoras e duração do cuidado e o domínio capacidade funcional; correlação positiva significativa entre nível de escolaridade e os domínios capacidade funcional e vitalidade. O número de crianças teve correlação negativa com o aspecto emocional e vitalidade. |

A pontuação do componente mental aumentou significativamente, em média 0,39 por semana até 6 semanas após a alta. Depois deste período não houve alteração significativa. O escore do domínio saúde mental aumentou de 6 semanas a 1 ano após a alta, mas posteriormente diminuiu de um ano para dois após a alta. Os escores dos domínios capacidade funcional, aspecto físico, dor corporal e estado geral de saúde, e a pontuação do componente físico não apresentaram alterações significativas ao longo do estudo. |
