A study of the translation and presence of the Spanish women writers in the 21st-century Chinese context

Abstract

Since the 1980s, literary exchanges between Spain and China have flourished, as evidenced by the hundreds of Spanish works translated into the Chinese language. However, a significant portion of these publications consists of works authored by men, while translations of women writers and related studies remain in the background. This study aims to highlight this situation through an analysis based on a bibliographic review. To document this circumstance more precisely, various bibliographic sources such as textbooks, translated books, thematic monographs, anthologies, and academic journals published in China focusing on works by Spanish women writers have been selected. The observed data reflect their underrepresentation in the 21^st century Chinese context compared to male writers and canonical works.
