PIAZZA NAVONA AND OTHER CANTOS: HAROLDO DE CAMPOS AND THE UNPUBLISHED TRANSBRAZILIANIZATION OF LUCIO MARIANI

Abstract

In this work, the unpublished correspondence between Haroldo de Campos and the Italian poet and translator Lucio Mariani is presented with six of Mariani’s poems translated by Campos in also unpublished translations and in multiple versions, together with Mariani’s observations. The question of the translation of poetic texts is quickly discussed, as well as Campos’s theory of translation, and the role of these letters in the study of the author’s and the translator’s creation. In the transcreation of these six poems, we can see the diversity of the concept of translation by Campos and Mariani, who apparently was more faithful to a more literal reading of his text.
