Dear Readers,
In this volume, the Journal of Food Science and Technology provides a tribute to Dr. Jane Menegaldo Gonçalves, President of the Brazilian Society of Food Science and Technology - sbCTA, who dead at age 57 on September 14th in Teresina, PI.
Dr. Jane Menegaldo graduated Food Engineer from University of Campinas and worked as a researcher at the Institute of Food Technology - ITAL from 1978 to 2011 at the Center of Food Chemistry, Center of Transfer of Knowledge and at Cereal Chocotec.
She obtained her Master degree in Food Technology (1981) and PhD (2000) in Food Science from the University of Campinas. Dr. Jane dedicated more than thirty years to the Science and Food Technology in Brazil and certainly left a legacy to be preserved, especially in Technology of Oils and Fats. At present, she was researcher at Embrapa Mid-North-Teresina/PI, where she passed away.
At sbCTA, Dr Jane was President for two terms (2009-2010 and 2011-2012), Vice Elected President (2007-2008), Director of Conferences and Events (2005-2006), Director of Industrial Relations (2001-2002), elected Councilor (1999-2000; 1997-1998; 1993-1994) and Financial Director (1991-1992).
She participated actively in training of several colleagues, giving values of ethics, solidarity and love of work. For all who have been privileged to know Dr Jane remains the challenge to be true to her legacy, which was too large for the Brazilian research.
