ABSTRACT
In this paper, it was developed a sociolinguistic analysis of the variation in the use of the subjunctive mood in the adverbial clauses in the Brazilian Popular Portuguese based on a sample of vernacular speech in a city of Bahia. From the linguistic point-of-view, the subjunctive-mood forms occur more widely in two situations: (1) one of a morphological component; (ii) the other of semantic component. From the social embedding point-of-view, the research points to a change in progress, in which there is an increased occurrence of usage of subjunctive mood forms in the grammar of younger people, what asserting the idea of a reduction of a flexional morphology in the usage of subjunctive mood by means of Irregular Linguistic Transmission process.
