This study analyzes the reasons for involuntary committing drug users in fourteen cases from 2016 to 2018. For this, Bardin’s content analysis was used, which indicated that the conception of dangerousness associated with drug use gave rise to family members’’ requests for asylum institutions and supported the granting of the internment measure. We observed a predominance of non-technical criteria in the motives of lawsuits and that the fragmented action of public policies favored the judicialization of social conflicts before the exhaustion of intervention possibilities.
