Multidimensional analysis of perceptions of security and citizen coexistence in Colombia

In this research is analyzed the existing associations between factors that condition the perception of security and citizen coexistence in Colombia, exploring the information from the ECSC-2019 Survey, carried out by the National Administrative Department of Statistics (DANE). Through a Multiple Correspondence Analysis (MCA), the security perceptions of Colombians over 15 years of age and their trust in the institutions of the public force are studied. It is concluded that the insecurity perception in Colombia have distinctions by gender, since men, in addition to feeling safer than women in different places of the public space, tend to use violence for self-defense. It is also observed that trust in the public force institutions is heterogeneous and its hang to be higher as the age of the people increases. This study shows the usefulness of data analytics for the multidimensional exploration of sociopolitical information in the Latin American context.
