ABSTRACT
The Middle Pleistocene (780-130 ka) was a key period in human evolutionary history. The period holds a great diversity of hominin species, technological innovations, in addition to being, after all, when Homo sapiens appeared on the planet. However, Pleistocene populations, as well as the biological relationships between them, remain poorly understood. Here, we bring a brief summary of human evolution with special attention to the Middle Pleistocene issues, advances in the field and the Brazilian contribution to this debate.
