abstract
This article intends to explore how the writings of Lima Barreto always revolve around his person and how the writer fictionalizes his own life. Lima Barreto is present, in some way, in all his characters - just as the Brazil he knew, and was chagrined by, ended up fueling his literary narratives. Yet, Lima was not a good ethnographer of his time. His literature at the same time mirrors and creates the context into which he was born.
