O fim do trabalho. Entre a distopia e a emancipação

ABSTRACT

The end of jobs is heralded as an inescapable trend at least since the 19^th century. The prediction and its aftermath have occupied some of the best minds in social thinking since then. The digital revolution has given new impetus to this prophecy. This article seeks to show that, although the more advanced forms of the digital revolution (artificial intelligence, machine learning and the Internet of Things) are already replacing many of the jobs that currently exist, this is not where greatest threat lies. The biggest problem with the technological revolution of the 21^st century is that it is exacerbating the social polarization of the labor market that goes against the very foundations of the welfare state of the 20^th century.
