Equations to estimate orientation, length and surface area of shades projected by trees in cattle feedlots are presented, considering location, year season, and time of the day. The equations refer to six types of tree canopy shape: spherical, lentil-like, cylindrical, ellipsoid, cone, and inverted cone. A worked example is given and discussed.
