Perceptions and knowledge of mothers regarding their hygiene practices for their children

The aim of this study was to identify knowledge and perceptions of mothers regarding their hygiene care for their children. It was a descriptive exploratory research, with a qualitative approach. Ethical requirements were observed. The Moraes´ Content Analysis method was applied to the interviews of ten mothers of children enrolled in community day care centers, from which emerged two data categories: (a) perceptions and knowledge and (b) intergenerational practices and health education practices. It was noticed the influence of socioeconomic and cultural factors on the way of caring for children, and that knowledge, in the context of families´ reality, allows a planning for nursing interventions.
