Factors that contribute to early weaning

The premature interruption of breast-feeding can cause danger, as the food that is used is inadequate as to the nutritional point of view, besides exposing the child to infectious organisms. It becomes relevant to investigate the factors related to weaning. Exploratory and quantitative research, carried out in the Family Development Center (CEDEFAM) in the period from May to June/2003, with twenty mothers who answered a questionnaire containing twelve questions about the reasons that led them to wean early. The results were grouped into three categories, presented in the form of charts. We concluded that professionals and society may not be prepared to favor the woman in the exercise of breast-feeding. Meanwhile, health policies do not create the conditions so that everyone can have access to education, income rise and understanding of family planning.
