The contributions of II Latin American Medical Congress for the Nursing in Brazil

Study about the recommendations of II Latin-American Medical Congress, in 1904, for the organization of nursing in Brazil. Objectives: To characterize the Brazilian doctors that participated in II Latin-American Medical Congress; and to analyze the recommendations of this Congress for the nursing. Historical-social study based on documental analysis resulted in: The participation of Brazilian doctors in this event was numerous. Among the sanitary quarrels, it appeared the question of the creation of schools of nurses presented by Dr. Moisés Amaral. Facing the evidences of the effectiveness to have a nurse instructed in proper schools and in accordance with the rules of the modern medicine, was approved the proposals for the creation of nursing schools. In spite of the strategic position that the Brazilian representatives in that Congress occupied in their country, we didn't find evidence of their commitment to the creation of nursing schools as a strategy to face sanitary problems.
