Work and care in the psychosocial attention context: some reflections

Based on the data of a local study, we present a reflection about the care work and practices carried out by the two teams of the Psychosocial Attention Centers (CAPS), in light of the theoretical, administrative and technical-assistance presuppositions of the Psychiatric Reform and the historicity, materiality and contradictions of the teamwork within the matogrossense context. In the reality studied, the kind of management in mental health conditions the model of attention and, in great measure, reduces the collective and individual creative potential of the workers and the users. We emphasize the innovative and creative potential of this new technology, which, however, when being nationally standardized, simultaneously warrants resources and institutionalizes the care and mobilizes the therapeutic practices. Work and care is a dynamical process including workers and patients into a dialectic. The enlargement of the technical-political habilitation of the workers and the act of facing the contradictions inherent to this work allows to construct the always provisional psychosocial attention.
