Requests for information at Fala.br: an analysis based on the dimensions of information literacy.

ABSTRACT

Objective:

Analyze the percentage of decisions on responses to requests for information from the population made available by the Ombudsman and Access to Information Platform - Fala.BR in line with the technical, ethical, aesthetic and political dimensions of information literacy. It should be noted that these dimensions were coined by Vitorino and Piantola (2011).

Methods:

This is an exploratory-descriptive research, with a quantitative approach.

Results:

It was identified that, although many requests for information on the Fala.BR Platform are related to the technical dimension of information literacy, these initiatives are not always aligned and answered as requests for information by the bodies involved.

Conclusions:

Several professionals deal with information in their daily activities and the information industry has promoted changes in professional skills and social relationships. The discrepancy between the expectations of requesters of information and the responses of the responsible bodies may indicate difficulty in accessing information and failures in the implementation of public transparency. The Fala.BR Platform presents opportunities to improve information services, but the lack of information literacy education limits citizen participation. Raising public managers' awareness and education in information skills offer opportunities for changing citizens' attitudes towards social responsibility.
