Librarianship, Documentation and Information Science: colonial networks of disenchantment

ABSTRACT

Objective:

The areas of Librarianship, Documentation and Information Science (BDCI) were crossed by the western dynamics of the historical coloniality of modern metaphysics. As an objective, this text seeks to situate some colonial networks of objectification of knowledge that erected and institutionalized the material domains of the BDCI as places of instrumental rationalization of life and disenchantment of the world.

Methods:

Faced with the problems inherent in the contexts in which the BDCI emerged, the question-problem addressed is: which structural elements of coloniality helped in the formation of library, documentalist and informational thought from modernity to the contemporary? The hypothesis defended is that the colonial relations of disenchantment operated by the processes of epistemic purification of the objective knowledge of science bequeathed to the fields of the BDCI the Western ways of knowing, deficient in otherness. The method is based on a philosophical reading of the BDCI from the interweaving of the signature of things in Agamben, the narrative deconstruction in Derrida and geophilosophy in Deleuze and Guattari.

Results:

The colonialities of being, knowledge and power are presented as indexes of the cartography of the territories of knowledge of the BDCI and point to the colonial elements that weave the networks of disenchantment of the world present in the respective fields.

Conclusions:

The epistemic disobedience of thematizing the BDCI fields from a colonial point of view creates the conditions of possibility for us to transform ourselves as a science and, through this alteration, free ourselves from the colonial ruins and their modes of expression. The conclusion is on the verge of re-enchanting the world with a view to postponing its end.
