The aim of this article was to analyze the variation of employment in the Brazilian economy in the period between 1991 and 2003 through the decomposition of structural change in employment intensity effect, technology effect, structure of final demand effect and change in final demand effect. It was also estimated the rates of structural change in employment, production and value added. The results showed the displacement of jobs in industrial and agricultural sectors for trade and services with increase in the total number of people employed in 7.30 million, with the effects of varying intensity and showed that the final demand the highest values.
