Bank location strategy: theory and empirical evidence applied to the state of Minas Gerais

Considering the Post Keynesian framework, money is a key element to determine output and employment, both aggregate and at a regional level. This paper aims to contribute to the understanding of both the localization strategy of banking services as well as the distribution pattern of branches in the state of Minas Gerais. There was strong evidence showing that the bank's location does not depend solely on economic issues. Conclusions highlight a spatial dependence in the location strategy of banks. In addition, the location pattern of the branches in the state of Minas Gerais can be explained by macroeconomic, political and regulatory issues.
