The complexity level of searches for sources of information to innovate in the Brazilian Industry using Social Network Analysis

Abstract

This paper aims to verify the evolution of the search for Sources of Information to Innovation (FIIs) by Brazil´s manufacturing industry, using PINTEC’s data from 2008 to 2017. The Social Network Analysis (SNA) was used to build an interaction network between industrial sectors and FIIs. It sought to verify the existence of concentration in certain industrial sectors and learning forms. The results demonstrate that the network presents increasing relational activity; however, the industrial sectors do not follow the pattern of learning expected by the bibliography and those that do follow are associated with sectors of low technological intensity. In addition, FII’s considered central to the network are associated with forms of learning related to tacit knowledge, while peripherals are associated with codified knowledge.
