Decolonization of Knowledge: Paulo Freire and Brazilian indigenous thought

ABSTRACT

This work starts from the ontology of the oppressed (Chabalgoity, 2015) underlying the intercultural education (Oliveira, 2015) proposed by Paulo Freire in an attempt to verify the Brazilian indigenous situation through Freire’s thought. It verifies that the indigenous peoples, impeded from the condition of being by the oppressive structures of Western civilization, break out against them and fulfill their vocation to be more through an insurgent thinking. It seeks, then, to verify the possible contributions in articulation of both philosophical currents, Freirean and Brazilian indigenous, for the current educational and epistemic contexts in a decolonial perspective.
