The author analyzes the term "impossible professions", of the two texts by Sigmund Freud: the "Preface to Aichhorn's Wayward youth" (1925) and "Analysis terminable and interminable" (1937). She produces a current interpretation to the Freudian expression: a joke linked to the three impossible professions: to govern, to cure and to educate. She also addresses three possibly crucial aspects to the future: power, medical practice and ethics.
