ABSTRACT:
This paper is part of a research that analyzes, based on press records, the onset of educational and amusement practices in natural spaces in the city of São Paulo during the 1920’s. The sources were constituted by texts and images from the newspapers O Estado de S. Paulo and Correio Paulistano, published between 1920 and 1929. From the theoretical perspective of cultural history, our objective is to comprehend the relations between education, amusements and outdoor life present in the everyday life of the inhabitants of São Paulo during this period. Finally, we wish to contribute to a comprehension of the role taken by an ideation of outdoor life in the constitution of a new urban order and its expression in distinct spheres of individual and collective life.
