2011-2020 'NPGS': the country's challenges and the national plan of graduate studies

This article aims to illuminate the foundations and policies of the 'NPGS' 2011-20, which has just been published by CAPES, to the academic community linked to the Brazilian graduate system. To this end, the new Plan is contextualized in the broader historical scene that comprises the previous Plans, as well as in the present conjuncture of the Nation, with its mega-challenges, great historical legacies, and enduring problems of the educational system and the ways to overcome them. Along with the information and clarification, the reader will find a set of questions and a theoretical-conceptual analysis of the science and technology courses in our country and their impact on the graduate system, considering the demands, gaps and ways they can be processed and overcome.
