Publishing catalogs and the circulation of literature within the school context

The purpose of this article was to present the results of a research that analyzed the publishing catalogs directed to the juvenile public, once they are important mediators of the literary works that circulate in school. The research was guided by the main following questions: Whom are catalogs thought for? Whom are they intended to? Which visual or textual elements are used by catalogs to draw readers' attention? It was possible to observe that the circulation of catalogs within the school space has increased with the strengthening of the State - market relationship; the categorization by age groups is one of the strongest features of the popularization of catalogs in the school environment; publishers tend to see reading mediators as deprived from any capacity to make autonomous literary choices; and finally, that the indication of the prizes awarded to the literary works are the greatest weapons of the publishing industry to entice its 'clients'.
