The action of "School Supporting Institutions" on the education of children from Minas Gerais in the 1920s

The present study aims to identify and analyze the "school supporting institutions" and their actions on the education of children from Minas Gerais in the 1920s. For this purpose, we consulted the Revista do Ensino de Minas Gerais and the Mining Laws of that period. For data analysis, we used the so-called "Foucauldian tools", especially those that help the understanding of power relations, as well as the production of knowledge and truth within discourses. The results show the performance of various auxiliary school institution in the state of Minas Gerais, including the "Associations of Mothers with Children", the "School Boxes", the "League of Kindness," the "Platoons of Health" and the "Scouts". Moreover, results suggest that such institutions were committed to help schools carry out broader education in childhood, by providing notions of morals, hygiene, and health.
