The paper observes the heterodox origin of the discussion on economic integration in Latin America, specially the one associated to ECLA, and highlights the concerns which supported this discussion and which had a heterodox character. This position is compared with the contemporary perspective on the economic integration issue, which is much aligned to the orthodox perspective, driving the heterodox analysis to a sceptic perspective on this issue.
