Abstract

This paper seeks to analyze the effect of BNDES Finame credit program on the survival chances of Brazilian industrial firms, separated according to their size, between the years of 2002 and 2016. For this purpose, the methods of Propensity Score Matching and Survival Analysis are used. In addition, it will be used the following databases: the microdata from Relação Anual de Informações Sociais (RAIS); the international trade microdata from Ministério da Indústria, Comércio Exterior e Serviços (MDIC); the microdata of Financial Operations from BNDES, data from Central Bank of Brazil (BCB), and from the Industrial Research Report, from IBGE. The main result of this article is that companies that used BNDES FINAME had a longer life span than those that were not covered by it. However, these results are not found to large companies. In addition, the smaller the company, the greater the effect of this financing on its survival.
