Abstract
This article aims to discuss the use of the figure of Our Lady of Aparecida in the context of the 1964 Coup and the Family Marches with God for Freedom. Based on the public manifestations of the clergy of the National Shrine of Aparecida, it seeks to understand how opposing political groups mobilized religious symbols and feelings in the context of the crisis that led to the 1964 Coup and, at the same time, to discuss the role of the Catholic Church in the coup and in the marches that legitimized the overthrow of João Goulart.
