“If we don’t get together, the television will be nationalized”: businessmen in the communication branch and the military dictatorship in Brazil

ABSTRACT

The possibility of nationalization of the Brazilian television was highlighted during the period of dictatorship, particularly, between the end of 1960’ies and the beginning of 1970’ies. This article intends to bring to light the behavior of the television’s businessmen when facing the requirements for compliance done by the military dictatorship. Widely read newspapers of the period were confronted with the historiography about the theme. This study aims to contribute to the comprehension of the dictatorship's intending to the television sector, as well as the relationship between the businessmen of the television branch and the military dictatorship.
