ABSTRACT
This article deals with the construction of a field of studies on urban phenomena in Brazilian social sciences in the 1970s and 1980s. For this purpose, it takes as its object of analysis the books published by Zahar Editores on the urban subject between the years 1957 and 1984. Based on the material analyzed, it is possible to affirm that the construction of an editorial policy at Zahar Editores focused on the publication of books linked to the recently founded graduate programs in social sciences enabled the development and consolidation of a prominent research agenda focused on cities in Brazil.
