The knowledge of the history of listed properties that house museums: Solar do Barão de Jundiaí (Jundiai/SP) and Casa de Prudente de Moraes (Piracicaba/SP)

Abstract

As part of a research that analyzes listed buildings from São Paulo coffee era (1830-1930), this article presents the Solar do Barão de Jundiaí, in the city of Jundiaí/SP, and the Casa de Prudente de Moraes, in Piracicaba/ SP. By showing the context of origin of each of these buildings and understanding the reasons of their listing, and how they were related to the historical museums installed in them, this article intends to apprehend how a listed property is presented to its visitors. Thus, it seeks to contribute to the debate on the updating of the meanings attributed to these buildings.
