The insurrection of the female voice in Ruína y leveza, by Julia Dantas

Abstract

We, contemporaries at the beginning of the 21st century, were tasked with debugging social and historical problems that produced societies with internal inequalities, whether in terms of representativeness or opportunities and rights. In this sense, the present study develops thoughts on the relationship between genders, the states of exploitation and subordination present in this scope and their collective and subjective implications. To this purpose, we elected a heterogeneous theoretical field in chronological terms, with authors already classic on the subject, such as Judith Butler, and also thinkers with more recent careers, such as Djamila Ribeiro. In addition, we used the novel Ruína y leveza, published in 2015, by the writer Julia Dantas, as a corpus of analysis. This choice was made both for the instigating approach to the theme and also for its aesthetic quality as an artistic object. The protagonist of the aforementioned narrative travels geographically, intellectually and emotionally in search of solving her personal conflicts. However, she establishes contacts that awaken her to the awareness that she is only part of a collective problem, and this awareness affects future choices for her life. The analytical intertwining between theory (social, historical ...) and literary practice showed us the productivity of the mix between intellectual exercise and fruition as a tool of resistance to a context of injustice and oppression. We realize that for the construction of a more humanized and balanced society, it is necessary that everyone, regardless of gender, be taken as subjects of their actions, with equal rights and duties.
