The divulgation of bibliographic knowledge in the Estado Novo in Brazil: a perspective of the Social Organization of Knowledge in the Journal Cultura Polítical

Abstract:

Understands how documents support the materiality of information and the traces of the spirit of the time. This article aims to analyze the nuances of the Social Organization of Knowledge, particularly involved in the journal Cultura Política, which carries at its core the legacy of the "spirit of the time," based on the bibliographic movement in the context of the political and social evolution of Brazil, from the new man to a new state (Estado Novo), listing the characteristics and dissemination of thought. The text analysis combines bibliographical and documentary research from the perspective of Critical Discourse Analysis. As a first step, a bibliographical review was conducted on the concepts of the Social Organization of Knowledge, supported by Hjørland, considering the social influences to which members of discursive communities are exposed, which underlie the social construction of knowledge that attributes importance to the materiality of documentation. Additionally, works by Velloso, Hallewell, and Pandolfi were consulted, explaining the history of the book in Brazil, bibliographic culture, book production, editorial and institutional policies, and the intellectual contributions to the construction of the discourse of the Estado Novo in Brazil. It was noted that the construction of knowledge associated with the materiality of information was fundamental for the political projection of the Estado Novo. In this context, it was considered that works seen as good ideas for a “new state for a new man” were centered and based on the political directives of the Estado Novo, aimed at shaping social thought according to the government's expectations, especially when it comes to books that sought to revive nationalist roots and interests from a colonial perspective.
