Contributions to the analysis of open data platforms with visual resources: requirements based on the fields of Visualization, Information Architecture and Usability

Abstract:

It aims to establish theoretical and practical contributions for the analysis of open data platforms that offer visual resources for the understanding of the meaning of its elements. From a bibliographic survey directed to the conceptual and procedural aspects and topics concerning the areas of Data Visualization, Information Architecture and Usability, it identifies principles that were the basis for the definition of criteria for the examination of sites that make data available. As a result, it presents a systematization of issues related to the three fields mentioned above, in the form of checklists that provide subsidies for the analysis of portals that make open data available and tools to visualize them. It concludes that, from the application of the systematizations presented, it will be possible to identify differences and particularities in the way each platform deals with its data, as well as its strengths and weaknesses, favoring the proposition of improvements in certain aspects for information retrieval.
