Archival preservation, management and governance in the Electoral Justice of Minas Gerais

Abstract

This article discusses archival preservation and its intertwining with archival policies, governance, and management, within the scope of the Regional Electoral Court of Minas Gerais. The instruments guiding these policies, such as resolutions and ordinances published by the Court itself and by its higher levels, were analyzed. It is argued that preservation, as an archival function, has the potential to contribute to institutional objectives, provided that the technical-scientific, managerial, and political requirements necessary for its proper execution are met. In this sense, the notion of institutional archival governance is presented as a possible and necessary link between the highest levels of the institution and the business area responsible for archival documents and archives.
