The role of the internationalization of higher education in Brazilian scientific production

Abstract

This paper analyzes the internationalization of higher education in Brazil between 2000 and 2015. It focuses on scientific publications indexed in international databases emphasizing international collaboration. Through a bibliometric approach, the evolution of collaborative production and its relationship with impact and visibility was obtained. Indicators of the Science without Borders Program are also considered to analyze its possible impact on internationalization. The results show that the collaborative production has had oscillations, but the number of citations received and the quartile of the publication journals, improve considerably with the international collaboration. The main collaborators are recipient countries of students and researchers participating in international mobility programs, including the Science without Borders.
