The Adult and Youth Education in Rio Grande do Norte: challenges and limits from results of the National Education Plan 2014–2024

Abstract

Study of the configuration of Youth and Adult Education (EJA), in Rio Grande do Norte (RN), with reference to the goals and strategies of the National Education Plan (2014–2024). Exploratory study that uses documentary analysis Report of the 5th PNE Monitoring Cycle, produced by the National Institute of Pedagogical Studies Anísio Teixeira (Inep), a comparison of enrollments made at EJA, according to School Census records, and the dimensioning of EJA’s potential demand, based on the Instituto Brasileiro de Geografia e Estatistica - IBGE (2022). The reading and analysis of the data dialogue with studies in the field of public policies for EJA, indicating the maintenance of a movement of denial of access to the right to education in RN, for the population over 15 years of age who intend to start or resume studies in order to complete Basic Education, expressed in the decreasing trend of enrollment in the EJA modality, a phenomenon also present at national level.
