Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA): An analysis of the efficiency in Spaece of State Schools in Region 4 of the Municipality of Fortaleza (CE)

Abstract

This article aims to evaluate the efficiency of state high schools in region 4 of the municipality of Fortaleza (CE) using the results obtained in the Spaece in the 2022 and 2023 editions. The quadrupole method and Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) modeling with Variable Returns to Scale (VRS), an output-oriented BCC-O model introduced by Banker, Charnes, and Cooper (1984), were used to verify the efficiency of state schools in region 4 of the municipality of Fortaleza. The proficiency in Portuguese and Mathematics in the 2022 and 2023 editions of the Spaece of 21 state schools in region 4 was evaluated. After applying the OSDEA-GUI-v0.2.jar software, the results revealed that of the 21 schools, 09 schools were considered to have an objective value of 1 efficient in both Portuguese and Mathematics. Based on the Benchmark, 2 schools with the highest incidence as reference DMUs and the best practices of these schools were identified, which can serve as an example for the other less efficient schools.
