The video game “Lemmings” in the initial training of Early Childhood Education teachers

Abstract

Video games are one of the most popular forms of entertainment among people and have the potential to be a valuable resource in teaching-learning processes due to their motivating and immersive nature. This research focuses on evaluating the classic video game “” as an educational resource by future Early Childhood Education teachers. To this end, 261 Early Childhood Education degree students from the University of Córdoba (Spain) participated. Data collection was carried out through a specially designed questionnaire, which consisted of a Likert scale (1-5) with 16 items organized into three dimensions: Student/Gamer Profile, Quality of the Video Game, and Evaluation of the Video Game as an Educational Resource. The collected data were subjected to descriptive analysis, mean comparisons, and a study of correlations and linear regressions. The results indicate that future Early Childhood Education teachers have a low profile as video game players, adopting a neutral stance regarding the quality of this video game and its use as an educational resource. Ultimately, despite this indifference towards using this video game to promote learning among Early Childhood Education students, there was no rejection of it, making it feasible to use “Lemmings” to work on the contents of this educational stage.
