Abstract
The present article analyzes papers on educational thought at the 1st Brazilian Congress on the History of Education held in Rio de Janeiro in 2000, and organized by the Brazilian Society for the History of Education (in Portuguese, CBHE). It also considers that scientific meetings reveal contents, canons, and ways of doing things of an intellectual community, as well as positions and interpersonal and institutional relationships involved in knowledge production. The contents of the papers presented in the sessions of the educational thought subtheme are related to institutional information about their authors, as well as about contemporary postgraduate research practices and disciplinary legacies. Taking as guidelines the history of that event and the organizing entity itself, the majority of the characteristics of this production link to the disciplinary traditions and connections of those who researched and wrote in the place established under the national postgraduate system. These elements constitute the empirical basis for understanding how this segment dedicated to educational thought circumscribed, operated, and shared notions and canons. In conclusion, these papers reflect the regional expansion of institutions, the nucleation of research lines and groups, the predominance of public institutions, and government support. The article compares the results that panoramic studies on the 1st CBHE interpreted as effects of paradigmatic changes, concluding that the antagonistic references did not affect the modes and results of approaches to the subtopic, in which the tradition of the history of pedagogy prevailed, long replicated in guidelines and incorporated as generalized academic know-how.
