POPULAR SONGS IN TEACHING GENETICS AND EVOLUTION: BREAKING STEREOTYPES AND SCIENTIFIC RACISM

ABSTRACT:

This article presents a reflection on the importance of biocultural memory and socio-scientific issues for teaching genetics and evolution. The objective is to discuss Biocultural Memory and contextualize the teaching of Genetics and Evolution to destroy prejudices and stereotypes in relation to the black race. In the methodology, among Bardin's varied content analysis methods, the evaluative analysis technique was adopted for the interpretation of three songs that praise and three songs that are pejorative to black people. It discusses the different ways in which scientific racism is established in the Brazilian imagination and the implications that pejorative music has for life in society.
