SOCIAL REPRESENTATIONS OF SUPERVISORS OF PIBID-CHEMISTRY ON “EXPERIMENTATION”

ABSTRACT:

This article presents the results of an investigation concerning the understanding of 172 Supervisors of PIBID-Chemistry projects about “experimentation”. We adopted the perspective of the Theory of Social Representations (SR). To obtain the information, we used a semi-structured free association of words questionnaire. We adopted the Prototypical and Similitude analyzes to perform the analysis of the information. Subsequently, we used the Content Analysis propositions to assign meaning to the terms of the SR. The results analysis led to three main conclusions: i) investigation is the most salient term of the CC of the individuals’ SR concerning experimentation; ii) commonly, Supervisors relate the development of experimental activities to the school context, considering the specificity and problems related to the referred space; and finally, iii) there is a relationship between the understanding of experimentation that students who are PIBID-Chemistry scholarship holders and the Supervisors’ SR, as described in the present paper.
