THE REPRESENTATIONS OF SCIENCE TEACHING AN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL TEACHERS GROUP: IMPLICATIONS FOR SCIENTIFIC TRAINING FOR CITIZENSHIP

ABSTRACT:

Based on the theoretical-methodological reference of the Theory of Social Representations, with special attention to its structural approach, this paper aimed to identify the content and the organization of the representations of the science teaching constructed by Elementary School teachers group of a city in the State of Espírito Santo, dealing with their possible relations with the process of scientific formation in this stage of Basic Education. By means of techniques applied to the Central Core Theory, it was possible to perceive that the teaching of sciences is represented, in greater content, as the mechanism of teaching concepts and procedures characteristic of sciences. The terms KNOWLEDGE, READING and OBSERVATION are central to this representation. The identification of these social representations made it possible to ponder how these teachers conceive the object in question and how it guides their actions, converging in discussions about their materialization in the process of scientific formation for the exercise of citizenship.
