Expression of leadership competencies and learning at work

The study had the purpose of testing training hours and learning strategies at work as predictors for leadership competencies among team managers. Leadership was defined as the process by which the manager and the team interact in an ethic way and influence each other to reach common goals. The participants were 377 managers of three federal government organizations that answered scales for learning strategies and leadership competencies, submitted to factorial analysis for psychometric validation. Multiple regression procedures were applied to test the proposed hypotheses. Four learning strategies (interpersonal help seeking, practical application, intrinsic and extrinsic work reflection, help seeking from written material) were predictors to leadership competencies. There wasn't any predictive relationship between training hours and the criterion variable. The results favor questions concerning the investment on managerial training.
