Inverting the traditional route of one Brazilian university psychological service

A new clinical intervention to change the client's natural route to an university psychological service was tested. Instead of the community going to the psychological service it is the service that goes to people in the community. It was developed in a psychological service branch (a school that allows psychological prevention programs from university) with 30 children (clients) assessed, before and after the intervention by CBCLs, TRFs and DOFs plus on indexes of attention to task and interaction with teacher, obtained from children's videos on academic activities. According to teachers and observers, all children that went through the intervention (n=10), were statistically different (p£.05) from wait control (n=20) considering: higher social competence, lower total behavioral disturbance, higher task attention and higher children-teacher interaction, showing that the proposal is feasible. New strategies shall be added to the proposal aiming to increase familiar involvement and preventing academic failure of referred children.
