Concepts of child development and maternal socialization goals in non-urban context

Abstract

The present research aims to identify mothers’ concepts of child development and socialization goals in a non-urban context. Participated 30 mothers of children ranging in age from 06 to 36 months. A semi structured interview and a questionnaire about socio demographic data were applied, the answers from the semi-structured interviews were analyzed by themes. The results showed positive conceptions of mothers about the development of their children, valuing health care, affection, education and socialization of children, as well as targeted goals for relational autonomous model of socialization, with more focused strategies in maternal figure. These results were discussed considering the cultural and contextual perspective of child development, as well as the socio-demographic characteristics of the participants.
