Education and juvenile delinquency: an integrative literature review

This integrative literature review presents an investigation concerning the existing relationships between education and juvenile delinquency. The PsycINFO, LILACS and Scielo databases were searched between 2008 and 2012. A total of 32 papers were identified after inclusion and exclusion criteria were applied. The results revealed what negative aspects of the educational experience not only contribute to the commitment of infractions, but are also significant predictors of such behavior, especially "poor school bonding". This is, however, a complex process permeated with multiple factors that belong to different domains, which in turn, indirectly depend on other agents and social contexts with varied intensity. Further research is needed to better understand the specificities of the Brazilian educational context.
