Academic elites and the schooling of their children

This paper is the result of a research organized by SOCED/PUC-RIO on the relationship between the academic elites and the schooling of their primary school children. It is based on a survey of 110 teachers working in a traditional Brazilian private university. Grounded on Pierre Bourdieu's references and localizing the surveyed population in the context of the Brazilian population, (Pesquisa de Padrões de Vida [standards of living survey]/IBGE-1998) and of the Brazilian university teachers (data from INEP/MEC), this research offers interesting results to discuss the educational strategies of these elites. An important byproduct of this research is the questions raised about the empirical fundament of the cultural capital.
