ABSTRACT
In the neoliberal society, the principle of liberty, which is guaranteed by law, combines with the economic rationality of the capital, that transforms human being into its functional element. Therefore, the educational system must offer the conditions for a humanistic formation in terms of citizenship, as well as in favors of the formation of professionals. The actual political tendency prefers the economic demands–discussing human capital, professional competence, or economization. Instead of continuing this way, pedagogy should try to find out a balance between both ideals of formation.
